History
Indian Cathodic Protection (ICP), a company under the same management as CCS, started operations in India way back in 1957, with the pioneering CP job on the first long distance cross-country pipeline in India - Naharkatia to Barauni. The engineer on site, V G Kulkarni also began his career with this project in 1960. His zest for learning and his commitment during the project saw him being deputed to the UK soon thereafter for undergoing specialised training in CP. Upon his return, V G Kulkarni became an indispensable engineer for the gradually burgeoning CP projects.
The Middle East/Gulf region has long been the Mecca of the pipeline industry. Inevitably , the visionary CCS management decided to open an office there in 1975, under the name of NDT & CCS. This company was affiliated to CCS and flourished thanks to the sound engineering capabilities built here, the savoir-faire of the then owner, Mrunal Bhagat, and V G Kulkarni's zeal in securing challenging contracts and competently executing them.
In 1984, management and ownership of CCS changed hands, placing
V G Kulkarni squarely at the helm. Not much later, in 1986, CCS Ianded the prestigious HBJ Gas Pipeline contract for NDT. Spie-Capag/NKK/Toyo, a consortium of globally acclaimed construction companies, was the customer, and Gas Authority of India Ltd. (GAIL), the owner.
Meanwhile, V G Kulkarni's business relationship with the Middle East/Gulf region continued to thrive. In the summer of 1989, Anand,
V G Kulkarni's son, joined the company after having obtained a Master's degree in Business Administration from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA. Prior to this, in 1986, Anand had qualified himself as an Electrical Engineer with distinction.
For nearly four decades now, CCS has been operating in an environment fraught with many constraints. Consequently, the team at CCS has had to continually evolve home-grown solutions to myriad problems which are unique to the sub-continent. However, thanks to the visionaries at the helm, CCS never lost sight of quality as a critical parameter by which to assess its achievements.
And in 1996, Det Norke Veritas (DNV) vindicated CCS's efforts, by awarding it the prestigious ISO 9001 accreditation in the fields of CP & NDT. The accreditation is valid for design, supply, installation & maintenance of CP systems as well as for NDT and inspection services.
More recently in 2004, CCS received the updated ISO 9001 - 2000 accreditation from DNV
